Frank Cardia is an established presence in the financial sphere who serves as the managing director of the Iron Edge VC Fund, which aims to provide members with efficient access to pre-IPO companies. One late-stage company in which Frank Cardia’s firm manages investments in is Virgin Hyperloop One, which is not yet available to purchase on public markets.

At the core of the company’s next-generation transportation approach is a system in which payloads of passengers are delivered at high speeds through tubes, in much the same way that pneumatic tubes were used for interoffice communication in the days before instant messaging.

Established by Elon Musk six years ago, Hyperloop Technologies entered into a strategic partnership with Virgin Group, operated by Richard Branson, in 2017. The model being developed involves a low-pressure tube environment designed to enable smooth, fast propulsion. An integrated network of tracks and magnets will enable passenger pods to achieve speeds that are similar to a jetliner. A major advantage of the pods will be their extraordinary efficiency, coupled with zero emissions.

A major accomplishment that promises to move the Hyperloop concept to reality was an agreement reached with the Indian government in 2019 to create a tube connection that extends 715 miles between New Delhi and Mumbai. Once completed, this will reduce travel time between the destinations to approximately 75 minutes, while providing passengers with efficiency and a price point that is not far from an ordinary subway system.
